I know what all of you are thinking right now, RC hobbies are for children and a grown man cannot start playing with RC models. Well, you are completely wrong and let me have this article to prove it.

We have to clear something out first because I suppose you are now picturing the small 20 dollar rc cars that you buy for small children, and I am obviously talking about something completely different. There are nitro model hobby cars that use actual internal combustion piston engines with a fuel that is made of approximately 20 percent nitro methane and the rest is oil and methanol. Now, that is a hobby car that you could not call a toy. They are fast monsters that weigh around 20 to 50 pounds, depending on the size, with fully adjustable everything, just like on a real race car. You can adjust the suspension geometry, stiffness, ride height, steering response, fuel mixture, center of gravity, there are several types of tires, each for a specific type of racing surface, there are several types of fuels and engine capacities and so on. Now, I bet you any amount of money that a 10 year old child would not be able to even start one of these cars, so they are not for children. I actually advise that you keep the children away from these rc hobbies until they are old enough to understand the dangers.

So, now that I have caught your attention, let\’s see where you can buy such a hobby car for a reasonable amount. There are several types of these little monsters, there are off road buggies, off road monster trucks, truggies ( a mix between the two) and several types of cars that you can actually use at a race track, on tarmac. Now, I owned one of the best nitro buggies in the world and I would suggest you look for an RTR version of a buggy (RTR stands for ready to run, you only need to put fuel in the tank). They are reliable, fast, maneuverable and very, very cheap. You will have some crashes until you learn how to handle the car\’s aggressive responses and I am sure that you will be amazed with the speed these little cars can achieve and how well they corner. Oh, by the way, they are four wheel drive with three differentials, a central one, a rear one and a front one, all of them adjustable.

The rc hobby shop is the place where you can get the kits themselves and everything you need in terms of accessories, such as the starting kit, fuel and parts, because you will surely break it the first couple of times you will run it. There is nothing really complicated about such hobbies, all you need to know is available with the instruction manual of the hobby car you just purchased.
